We really like Tennessee Farm Fresh sponsored by The Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation. This is the place to visit to find local farmers in your quest to buy locally, find tasty recipes, keep up-to-date with Tennessee farming news, and to find links to other interesting sites dealing with farming in Tennessee. They also have a Facebook page that you can “like” and be kept up to date that way as well.
If you want to know more about grass-fed farming, for beef as well as other animals, we think a great place to start; or continue your research, would be the writings of Jim Gerrish. He did a tremendous amount of research early in his career and has validated his findings though years of work in his own operation. In 2006, we asked him to come to our farm, evaluate our resources and give us his recommendations on how to proceed. His report was right on the money and has been extremely valuable to us. You can learn more about him at his website.
We think Jim's book, Management Intensive Grazing is an essential reference for anyone in the business of producing grass for animal consumption. It is available through several sources. You can buy by clicking on the link to the right. The company also publishes The Stockman GrassFarmer, a monthly magazine that is the most widely read in the grass-fed industry. They will send you a trial issue to evaluate.
And be sure to visit Pick Tennessee Products. You’ll find loads of interesting information about country fairs, farm fun and education, farmers markets, flowers, plants and trees, food, pet food, Tennessee farm artisan products, equine resources. and a lot more. And be sure to “like” their Facebook page, too.
